Open Access developments in USA

On the 16th January, the US Congress passed legislation requiring free access to published research funded by federal agencies for Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education within a year of publication of the journal article.

Already, research funded by the NIH (National Institute of Health) has this requirement and top American journals have had to adapt their Open Access policies to take account of it.

For more details on this development, read the announcement on the SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) website
